Take an active role in our community.
We know that when we volunteer with other people, we grow in spirit. It’s important to harness the power of the Y to make life better for people around us. As a part of the Y family, you’re part of something greater that helps fulfill our cause to strengthen the foundation of our community.
Volunteer in the Y or through the Y in the community. Put your talents and passion into action through our service projects and programs with youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Fulfill your calling and serve with the Y.
Each branch of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne has a volunteer advisory board. Branch Advisory boards support the Executive Director in fulfilling his or her responsibilities as the staff leader. One of the most important roles of a Branch Board member is fundraising.
If you are interested in applying to become a Branch Board member, please contact the Executive Director of the branch where you would like to serve.
YMCA Chaplains are local Christian ministers who volunteer a few hours a week in a branch. They are available to members and staff to listen, pray, and support your spirit in accordance with our mission and core values. If you are a local minister interested in our chaplaincy program, please contact Tim Hallman, Director of Christian Emphasis.

What is Togetherhood™?
Togetherhood™ is the YMCA’s Signature Program for social responsibility that gives Y members the opportunity to select, plan, lead and participate in meaningful community service projects that benefit people and organizations right here in our neighborhood! We know members, like you, have lots of ideas and the desire to reach out to make positive changes in our community. That’s why we invite you to participate in Togetherhood.
How does it work?
A Y staff advisor guides a committee of Y members who plan and lead volunteer service projects. A comprehensive resource toolkit ensures Togetherhood committees are supported each step of the way, from planning the year of service to running projects to reporting and celebrating their successes.
How do I get Involved?
The Y is mobilizing thousands of volunteers nationwide who are using their creativity, passion and hard work to transform communities. We invite you to join us at participating branches! Currently, Togetherhood is offered at Skyline YMCA and Parkview YMCA branches. With Togetherhood, there are opportunities to serve on a committee throughout the year or volunteer on individual projects that interest you. If your Y doesn’t yet offer Togetherhood, let your branch leadership know that your’re interested and ask about other ways to volunteer and give back through the Y.
A Y Ambassador welcomes new members to the Y. You can provide encouragement to new members who need a friend and support as they start their wellness journey. To find out how to become a Y Ambassador, please contact the Wellness Director at your local branch.
This program connects individuals with physicial, developmental and intellectual disabilities with volunteers and they participate together in programs, classes, and activities at the Y our Director of Adaptive Services Rebekah Coffey at 260.755.4961.
